Exceptional Craftsmanship in Interior Painting

At MJK Painting, we understand that interior painting is essential for elevating your space and deserves careful attention and skilful execution. A lacklustre paint job, whether due to unappealing colour selections or inferior craftsmanship, can detract from your home’s beauty and is often difficult to remedy. To bring your vision to life, we start with an in-depth consultation to fully comprehend your style and preferences.

Our skilled painters then meticulously prepare and execute the painting process, choosing colour palettes that complement your decor and using high-quality paints that resist moisture and stains, while finishes are tailored to gracefully enhance your interiors. With our unwavering commitment to excellence, we ensure that your spaces become pristine reflections of your personal taste.

Common Questions

What paint finish should I choose for different rooms in my home?

The right finish depends on the function of the room. Flat or matte finishes are ideal for low-traffic areas like master bedrooms and formal lounges where a sophisticated, non-reflective look is desired. Eggshell is a versatile choice for living rooms and dining rooms. Satin offers good durability for children’s bedrooms and hallways. Semi-gloss is recommended for kitchens, bathrooms, and laundries due to its moisture resistance and easy cleaning. Gloss is best reserved for doors, trims, and timber architraves. MJK Painting can advise on the right finish for every room in your home.

Why is surface preparation so important in interior painting?

Surface preparation is the single most important factor in determining the quality and longevity of a paint job. Skipping or rushing preparation is the leading cause of early paint failure — including peeling, bubbling, and uneven finish. MJK Painting follows a thorough preparation process on every project: cleaning surfaces, filling cracks and holes with appropriate filler, sanding back rough areas, and applying a suitable primer before any topcoat is applied. This foundation is what separates a lasting, professional result from a job that looks good for six months.

Are the paints used by MJK Painting safe for families and pets?

Yes. MJK Painting uses Dulux Premium Paint products, many of which are available in low-VOC and near-zero-VOC formulations. These paints have minimal odour during application, dry relatively quickly, and do not off-gas harmful chemicals over time. They are suitable for use in homes with children, pets, and occupants with respiratory sensitivities. MJK Painting ensures adequate ventilation is maintained during and after painting. If you have specific concerns, please mention them at the quoting stage, and the team will recommend the most appropriate product range.

Can you paint over existing wallpaper?

While painting over wallpaper is technically possible in some situations, MJK Painting generally recommends removing wallpaper before painting for the best and most durable result. Painting over wallpaper can cause seams to become visible through the new paint, and if the paper later peels or lifts, it will take the paintwork with it. MJK Painting can assess the existing wallpaper on site and advise on the best course of action. Wallpaper removal can be arranged as part of the project if needed.

Should I paint my ceilings the same colour as my walls?

This comes down to personal preference and the effect you want to achieve. Painting ceilings white or a slightly lighter shade than the walls is the traditional approach and makes rooms feel brighter and more spacious. Painting the ceiling the same colour as the walls creates a cocooning, enveloping effect that suits bedrooms and intimate dining spaces. In rooms with high ceilings, a deeper ceiling colour can also bring the space down to a more human scale. MJK Painting is happy to walk through the options and show colour samples during the consultation.

When can I move furniture back after interior painting is completed?

With Dulux water-based paints, surfaces are typically touch-dry within 1–2 hours and ready for a second coat in around 4 hours. However, MJK Painting recommends waiting at least 24 hours before moving furniture back into freshly painted rooms, and 2–4 weeks for full paint cure — during which time it’s best to avoid scrubbing walls or placing heavy objects directly against them. Full curing time depends on ventilation and temperature. The team will provide specific aftercare guidance once your project is complete.
