MJK Painting follows a thorough preparation process on every project: cleaning surfaces, filling cracks and holes with appropriate filler, sanding back rough areas, and applying a suitable primer before any topcoat is applied. Yes. MJK Painting uses Dulux Premium Paint products, many of which are available in low-VOC and near-zero-VOC formulations. These paints have minimal odour during application, dry relatively quickly, and do not off-gas harmful chemicals over time. They are suitable for use in homes with children, pets, and occupants with respiratory sensitivities. MJK Painting ensures adequate ventilation is maintained during and after painting. If you have specific concerns, please mention them at the quoting stage, and the team will recommend the most appropriate product range.

While painting over wallpaper is technically possible in some situations, MJK Painting generally recommends removing wallpaper before painting for the best and most durable result. Painting over wallpaper can cause seams to become visible through the new paint, and if the paper later peels or lifts, it will take the paintwork with it. MJK Painting can assess the existing wallpaper on site and advise on the best course of action. Wallpaper removal can be arranged as part of the project if needed.

This comes down to personal preference and the effect you want to achieve. Painting ceilings white or a slightly lighter shade than the walls is the traditional approach and makes rooms feel brighter and more spacious. Painting the ceiling the same colour as the walls creates a cocooning, enveloping effect that suits bedrooms and intimate dining spaces. In rooms with high ceilings, a deeper ceiling colour can also bring the space down to a more human scale. MJK Painting is happy to walk through the options and show colour samples during the consultation.

With Dulux water-based paints, surfaces are typically touch-dry within 1–2 hours and ready for a second coat in around 4 hours. However, MJK Painting recommends waiting at least 24 hours before moving furniture back into freshly painted rooms, and 2–4 weeks for full paint cure — during which time it’s best to avoid scrubbing walls or placing heavy objects directly against them. Full curing time depends on ventilation and temperature. The team will provide specific aftercare guidance once your project is complete.
